The ethics of marketing are always in question - when does it go to far? When is it Audience Manipulation? 

Here is the contrast: 

Effective marketing is helping the customer see the benefit and the experience that you are selling and over exceeding their exceptions.

Manipulation is built off of exaggerated benefits, non realistic experience and not even satisfying the promise made.

One tricks people the other helps them make a decision.
