As the internet expanded more and more, people around the world were able to become connected instantly with each other.

Things in a lot of ways went from local to global. People were connected in ways that they could never have been connected before.

However, there is a new more modern shift that has already happened. As the internet has developed more, it has gotten more segmented. For example, instead of there being one e-commerce store - there are dozens that specialize in various things, that as the internet grows so does its division of labor. As it slices up more, more and more industries become localized. Localized in the sense that people like connecting to small groups of people around them whether it is physically local or digitally local - people seek out a tribe connection.

The shift back from global and local is a natural cause of humans forming tribes.
